Graf Von Faber Castell Pen of the Year 2016

Graf Von Faber Castell Pen of the Year 2016

I don't think writing instruments from Graf Von Faber Castell need much introduction. The use of fine materials and meticulous craftsmanship makes Faber Castell writing instruments a premium choice for pen enthusiasts and collectors alike. Renowned for its novelty, Graf Von Faber Castell has become even more radical with the introduction of "Pen of the Year" series. The renowned "Pen of the Year" series was first introduced in the year 2003, since then the series is considered as a pinnacle in Graf Von Faber Castell's line up of exquisite writing instruments. "Pen of the Year" series is the most expensive collection of writing instrument amongst Graf Von Faber Castell's heritage of luxury collection, and are designed by most skilled artisans. Till date 14 "Pen of the Year" have been introduced and all of them are titled with hallmark of excellence.

Three Pillars of History

The Elegant Graf Von Pen of the Year 2016 takes its design from the Vieux-Laque Room of Schönbrunn Palace. This beautiful writer completes the trilogy series of writing instrument designed to commemorate era defining places and personalities. The first of the series was introduced in 2014 and was named after "Catherine Palace" in St.Petersburg. Extending the series, in 2015 Graf Von Faber Castell introduced the elegant “Sanssouci, Potsdam” Pen of the Year.

The Vieux-Laque room has its own story to tell

“Nothing in this world, all diamonds mean nothing to me. The only things that give me joy come from China, especially lacquerware.” - Empress Maria Theresa

The Vieux-Laque room was remodeled by Empress Maria Theresa in loving memory of her beloved husband Emperor Franz Stephan. The Emperor had an affinity for lacquer, and to symbolize her timeless love the empress decorated the room with lacquer - which was then considered as an epitome of luxury. Black lacquer panels from Peking were set into walnut paneling and embellished with gilt frames. The empress also commissioned several portraits for this room which still hang there. The posthumous portrait of her husband by Pompeo Batoni was completed in 1769, four years after the death of the emperor.

A Modern Interpretation of the Vieux-Laque room

The new Graf Von Faber Castell Pen of the Year 2016 is a beautiful interpretation of the historic room designed by Empress Maria Theresa. The Conservator of the of the Vieux-Laque Room Silvia Miklin and master of Maki-e technique Tomizo Saratani have combined their expertise to create this fascinating writing instrument. The beautiful motifs of the room are carefully illustrated on the pen, reflecting timeless art of the era. The allurement of the Graf Von Faber Castell Pen of the Year 2016 is defined by the use of three sophisticated elements. Each of the three elements are first painted in black, then polished and burnt several times by hand. The provocative design of the pen is further enhanced by lovely artwork sprinkled with 24 carat gold powder to bring out the theme of the Vieux-Laque Room. Each "Pen of the Year 2016" is embellished with a black onyx which gels stupendously with the design of the pen.

Like all the previous editions, the new Graf Von Faber-Castell "Pen of the Year 2016" also comes with 18k bicolor gold nib. The quality of these outstanding nibs complements the astonishing design of the pen.

The Graf Von Faber Castell "Pen of the Year 2016" is available in platinum and gold version. Both versions are available in two different writing modes, rollerball and fountain pen. The numbered pens are available in limited numbers and come in a distinct black wooden case with an authentic certificate signed by the master craftsmen. This heart-winning collection will be available for a limited time period. So, before they start to fly out of our store order your "Graf Von Faber Castell Pen of the Year 2016" exclusively from Pen Boutique.

Pen Review For Faber-Castell Ambition Pearwood by Babak

Faber-Castell Ambition Pearwood
The Faber Castell brand is known for making art supplies and instruments. However, they are also noteworthy in producing fine fountain pens. The Ambition Pearwood is no exception. The great German craftsmanship comes through with a beautiful pearwood body and solid chrome cap. The pen has a traditional flair, while being fit for any contemporary writer.

The body of the Ambition Pearwood is a traditional piece of art, combining the natural wood and the steel ascents. The pearwood has a soft and smooth finish. The pen has a good length to it and is of medium thickness. The color is a rich and vibrant mix of reddish and brown wood. The pen itself is surprisingly light when not posted.  When posted the cap snaps on tight and secure. The posted pen almost transforms, as it is now a substantial medium weight and over an inch longer than it already is. Still, it is not top heavy and comfortable in the hand. When gripping the pen, the fingers tend to be more steady on the pearwood, rather than the small amount of chrome ascent before the nib.

The Ambition Pearwood is a very dependable pen, with a durable yet smooth steel nib. For example, the broad nib has an almost marker like thickness. This is extra level of thickness is to be expected for a German nib. It writes exceptionally smooth for a steel nib, with the ink flowing effortlessly. There is very little drag or resistance when the nib touches the paper. The pen is available in fine and medium for those weary of that broad German nib. It comes with a Standard International converter for convenience and can also take the Standard International cartridges.

A great daily user for those looking for a natural appeal, the Ambition Pearwood Fountain Pen is solid piece of craftsmanship for under $150. The German precision is evident on the steel nib and chrome accents, while the smooth and eye catching pearwood looks and feels comfortable.

Faber Castell E-Motion Fountain Pen Review

Faber-Castell E-Motion Pure Black Fountain Pen
Faber-Castell E-Motion Pure Black Fountain Pen
The e-motion has long been one of the most popular Faber-Castell lines available.  It has mainly been built with a wood or precious resin body and metal front section, cap and rear section.  Faber-Castell’s latest iteration is a whole metal affair – the Pure Black edition.  This is a modern looking, minimalist designed writing instrument. The body is made of an anodized aluminum with a guilloche pattern engraved on it, which offers a tactile feel and grip without being too rough.  The front section, cap and end piece are chrome plated and then finished in matte black.  The fountain pen’s nib is stainless steel coated in PVD, and is available in Fine, Medium or Broad. Faber-Castell also offers this line in Rollerball, Ballpoint or Mechanical Pencil.  The fountain pen uses international size cartridges and a converter is included.
While a bit shorter than most other pens, the tapered cylindrical shape allows the e-motion to fill the hand.  The all metal construction leads to a weighty pen – 1.9 oz as measured on our postal scale.  The cap is .7 oz and the body is 1.2 oz.  While somewhat shorter in stature than most pens, the Pure Black does not feel inconsequential. Posted, the length is just right and I found the shorter body and heavy cap to create an overall well balanced writing experience – the combination of the smoothness of the nib and the weight of the pen made writing with the e-motion very enjoyable.  I like the feel of the guilloche pattern on the body, and the front section is of a good diameter as well.  The nib is removable, making cleaning a breeze.  If I had to choose one issue, it would be that the guilloche pattern traps dust and lint very easily, and the black color makes this easy to see.  However, a quick wipe with a cloth and it goes back to looking brand new.  Something that I really like about the finish on this piece is that it will not readily show fingerprints, unlike chrome plated pens.
The Faber-Castell e-motion Pure Black fountain pen is by far one of my favorites – It is understated, yet catches your eye; it is shorter, yet has a surprisingly nice weight; it is easy to clean, easy to write with, and should be on everyone’s must-try list.

Graf von Faber-Castell Tamitio Fountain Pen Review

Graf von Faber-Castell Tamitio Fountain Pen
The Graf von Faber-Castell Tamitio line brings the high quality and craftsmanship of the luxury brand to the affordable price levels of the workhorse Faber-Castell lines.  It is an elegantly designed piece which is constructed of a metal body covered by multiple layers of varnish.  This varnish imparts a matte finish which is non-reflective and smooth to the touch.  The front section, rear section and cap are all polished metal.  The nib is stainless steel and plated with Rhodium.  The body has fluting which not only gives the pen a sleek look but also allows for a solid grip.  The Tamitio is available in Black, Rose or Taupe and all share the same polished metal accents.  It is offered as a fountain pen, rollerball, finewriter, ballpoint or mechanical pencil – the finewriter uses a felt-tip/fineliner type refill.  The fountain pen includes a Graf von Faber-Castell converter, is compatible with short international cartridges and is offered with an Extra Fine, Fine, Medium or Broad nib.

The attention to detail and finish on the Tamitio line really shine through on this piece.  This is a weighty pen, no doubt due to the metal and varnish used extensively throughout the body.  I found the fluting in the body to be both grippy and comfortable.  The pen sans cap is weighted very well, and posting the cap did not throw that balance off too much.  The Rhodium plated nib is very smooth, though the Medium was a little on the wet side for my tastes.  I do like the black shield located at the top of the cap – it draws the eye and sets the logo apart from the silver colored metal.  The nib unscrews from the front section, making cleaning extremely easy.

From sight alone, the Tamitio fountain pen is unmistakably from the expert craftsmen at Graf von Faber-Castell.  The lines of the cap and quality materials utilized are sure signs of this German manufacturer.  The pen is a smooth writer, with a nib that is easy to use and easy to clean.  The Tamitio is an easy and affordable step up from Faber-Castell pieces into the luxury pieces offered by Graf von Faber-Castell.

The Faber-Castell Loom Review

I was looking for a nice writing fountain pen for under $50 and I found it.  The Faber-Castell Loom pen is perfect.  It comes in a variety of colors, including metallic.  I picked the newest color - Purple, though the Lime was good looking too.  The box surprised me for an inexpensive pen.  Most of the time the boxes are throw away, but this one is a keeper, due to the heavy construction and clean styling of it.

The pen wrote the first time out of the box with no issues.  The Extra Fine nib is very smooth and doesn't skip at all.  I also purchased a Faber Castell converter, even though it will accept any international converter or short ink cartridge.  It may be just my opinion, but the Faber converter seems to hold more ink.

The grip was a little slippery, but still comfortable.  The shiny barrel does seem to keep fingerprints on it as well.  This is easily fixed with keeping a clean cloth around.

The pen is balanced well and is not top heavy. The cap fits in with a snap so you know it is closed and the cap also posts well.
I am very pleased with my new purchase and plan on using it for years.

- Joy

Faber-Castell Pen of the Year 2011 “The Jade Pen”

It was the end of a chilly winter and we were all getting ready to welcome the spring.
The phone rings and the customer care answers with the usual warmth you get when calling Pen Boutique. “Thank you for calling Pen Boutique. This is Cindy speaking. How may I help you?” . “I heard about Faber Castell Pen of the year 2011 and I would like to place order for that” said an elderly gentleman who is ordering from us for the first time. Cindy, quickly said in her pleasant tone “We are taking only preorders on that,as the pen is supposed to arrive only by end of March”. He said, “No problem,I would like to place a order and get it shipped when it comes in”.
Spring came and it kept the entire town wet all the time, but the pen had some issues coming from Germany and it kept getting delayed.Frustration among customers started growing.Since then, the gentleman kept calling every other day to know whether the pen has arrived or not. Cant blame him, that’s the kind of reception the pen has had among pen enthusiasts.
It’s that time of year again. Time for pools, ice cream, walks in the park and “The Pen of the Year” from Faber-Castell is finally here and all the preorders has been shipped. We special ordered a few more because of the interest it has created in the past many months. All the customers who received the pens have nothing but good things to say about this pen.
fb_penofyear2011_7
Every year since 2004, Faber-Castell creates a uniquely designed pen that distinguishes itself from all other pens. The series represents a one of a kind union of art and technology coming together to create a unique writing experience. They represent a distinctive tone and elegance that makes them a marvel(did I say marbel?)  to write with and are very pleasing to the eye. The 2011 Pen of the Year is absolutely no exception.
fb_penofyear2011_one
The Faber-Castell 2011 Pen of the Year is a tribute to artmans. Faber-Castell uses Russian jade(Jade is also found in China,India) or nephrite, to bring a new level of design to the Pen of the Year series. Known by many as a bringer of luck(could be a good addition to hit that jackpot) , symbol of power(Did superman……?) , elixir of immortality, jade is an ornamental stone and has always been surrounded by a special aura.
 Nephrite Jade
Jade is not easy to come by and is extremely difficult to work. Used by many civilizations, jade has inspired craftsmen through the ages to create amazing works of art. Extraordinary skill is required to bring out the amazing qualities of this gemstone. Faber-Castell uses eight segments of jade on the Pen of the Year 2011, symbolizing the eight generations that have made their mark on the family firm to date.

Now that we got that out of the way, let’s get to the meat and potatoes of it. The moment you first lay your eyes on this pen, you quickly notice its 2” inch long jade segments. Jade is an interesting stone because it is a subtle stone that still catches your attention very easily. The stones are surrounded by a platinum plated frame that complements the stones very nicely and do not overpower the jade at all. The next thing you notice is the weight. As soon as you pick it up you can really feel the weight of this instrument. With a pretty hefty weight and close to 5 1/2 inches long from cap to cap, this pen of the year has plenty of substance. Almost half of the weight seems to be on the cap itself. Once the cap comes off though, you instantly feel like writing. The pen fits very comfortably in your hand and has a great feel to it. It has a screw on cap with the classic Faber-Castell spring action clip with one downside. The cap does not post. It will protect the nib very well though.

Faber-Castell has incorporated green gemstones that celebrate Faber-Castell’s 250th anniversary. The emerald-colored stones on the cap and blind cap are delicately mottled with a deep green that really shows some unusually appealing shadings.
fb_penofyear2011_9
There are many processing steps that are required before a piece of jade can be inserted into these pens. From the first slice of the raw stone to the final polish, the artist must recognize its unique nuances and bring out jade’s nature. Only very experienced jewelers can achieve that. Only the most experienced artists can master the cuts typical of jade. These are chiseled piece by piece to create a masterpiece in stone. This chiseled jade is found in Siberia, but the exact location has always been one of the dealer’s best-kept secrets. Needless to say, real jade is usually not found at your local hardware store.
The faceting of the stones on the barrel are really the crowning glory of the Pen of the Year. Immaculately faceted and polished, the jade is given its final and perfect form by a master craftsman of the Stephan gemstone manufactory. All of this backed by the long tradition of the Idar Oberstein workshops that were set up in the 15th century and now enjoy a world-wide reputation. So, it seems like they know what there doing.
For more intricate details about how the pen was  made, please click here –> Graf Von Faber Castell

The 18-carat bicolor gold nib is very smooth available in Fine, Medium, and Broad nib sizes, each one ‘run in’ by hand. The platinum-plated end cap, or blind cap, protects the twist knob for the filling piston mechanism.
fb_penofyear2011_5
Each pen is individually numbered and comes in an exclusive wooden case. The green lid is polished to a high gloss and is a very nice touch to the whole design. It’s the kind of box that gets you curious and makes you wonder what is inside. Included is a certificate that bears the personal signature of Count Anton Wolfgang von Faber-Castell (Click the link to read an interesting article about him on Money Week magazine), reminding you that what you hold in your hands is the limited edition Pen of the Year 2011.
fb_penofyear2011_4
The Faber-Castell Pen of the Year 2011 is absolutely a must have for any pen enthusiast. It’s also a prefect birthday gift for anyone born in the month of March since jade is listed as the mystical birthstone for the month of March and is also the birthstone for the sun sign Virgo. A beautiful design and immaculate engineering backed by the Faber-Castell name, the “jade” pen is a sight to behold and a fine writing instrument to be had.
fb_penofyear2011_6
For those of you ,who are reading this and you are holding one of these prized possessions in your hand..I have one to thing to say . This is going to be the pen you would cherish for a long time.

Faber Castell Pen of the year 2012–It glitters and its Gold

It’s all very astounding, really. I always think, that’s it. There’s nothing more that can be done. That is the most beautiful, emblematic and flawlessly constructed pen I have ever seen. I always think that I’ve seen all I can possibly see in the realm of pen craftsmanship short of a built-in-watch, (You hear that, Montblanc? Visconti? I want my royalties when one of you patents that) but something always comes along that completely blows me out of the water with its brilliance. Right now, this emotional phenomenon is all because of Faber-Castell, a company from whom I have now learned to expect nothing but greatness. Greatness, however, does not begin to describe their latest starlet: Graf Von Faber Castell 2012 Pen of the Year. I’m not afraid to admit it, but I’ve been looking forward to each year’s installment of the Pen of the Year collection for a long time now. Cheesy, I know, but there’s just something that’s absolutely captivating about this collection. Ever since they presented the first model in 2004 – an amber-inspired tour de force that was as fascinating as it was invaluable – The Pen of the Year has never failed to be anything less than marvelous. Let us begin our dissection of this modern marvel by starting with its body.
POY2012_1
Surprisingly enough, the barrel is made out of wood – but it’s no ordinary wood. Far too important to be made out of something as commonplace as pine or cedar, the 2012 is made out of an ancient wetland oak wood carefully cultivated from Germany’s bogs and marshes. This special oak takes centuries to form, and many of the wood pieces used in this collection have been buried for more than 8,000 years. The recovery of wetland oak wood is a matter of chance, and this makes each and every piece as unique as it is mysterious. (You could almost consider them a portable National Heritage Site .)

POY2012_2

Whether it’s The Golden Fleece, the Nibelung Hoard or the Philosopher’s Stone – no matter the medium, there has been no metal that has so wholly captivated and controlled the entire world as gold. Since the dawn of time this precious element has bedecked emperors, sparked wars, and it was for this very material that the entire Western Hemisphere was traversed. (“The gold of Cortez, the jewels of Pizarro…the gold we find here will dwarf them by far…”) Faber-Castell has incorporated this utterly timeless material in the 2012 installment by using a system that made sure nothing could possibly be left to chance. The next step in creating these pens is a process so delicate and precise that only a select few gilders in the entire world are capable of implementing it. Ernst D. Feldmann, a master gilder and church painter, has studied Venetian gilding techniques for years and has been awarded the Bavarian State Design Award. It was this skill and expertise that made Faber-Castell allow him to apply a gold covering to the wood using a 4,000-year-old, Ancient Egyptian technique. Using a fine squirrel-hair brush, multiple layers of 24K gold leaf are carefully painted onto the oak barrel in an intricate design.

The front tip of the pen features an impressive 18K bicolor gold nib that is available in line widths of fine, medium and broad with each one ‘run in’ by hand. The end cap protects the filling mechanism’s twist knob while the top cap is crowned with a chessboard faceted citrine gemstone. Every one of the meal fittings and finishes are 24K gold-plated and shinned to luminescence. (“So go for the gold, we know which is here, all the riches here…” Don’t look at me like that. You know that movie was amazing.) The final finishing is coated with a tough resin that skillfully presents an exceptional display of resplendence and beauty.
POY2012_4
The 2012 Pen of the Year is a masterpiece in its own right, and never before have I seen a pen created with such subtle distinction and unmatchable superiority. It is a timeless piece of such pristine perfection that it is only expected that it is packaged with the same care and dedication that it took to make it. Limited to only 1500 pieces, each pen is individually serialized and comes in a striking deep black wooden case. It is accompanied by a Certificate of Authenticity signed by Ernst D. Feldmann. The Certificate is his personal attest to the uniquely complex process and materials that collaborated to create the precious treasure lovingly enclosed in the aforementioned box.
POY2012_5
I could go on for ages about the fascinating mechanisms and historical mystiques embedded in the very nature of these pens, but it would take ages to go over each miniscule wonder that the crafters managed to implement. In the end, all you need to know is that this pen is a magnum opus fit for El Dorado.

When time passes by...

Pen Boutique

Pen Boutique been online for 5 years and all these years we grew by learning from others. We looked upon others to learn how they do things. The dealers in writing instruments have experience of decades and we were a child in this whole scenario. We started when the recession was over and just with a hope that our passion can help us to channel our energy where our heart lies - Fine pens.

We were only thinking that we will have something very nice and small and help the niche customers.

"There were no big ambitions, just try to do something.. something with our lives to make it more meaningful..."

We were ready to put our hearts in customer service and make it the priority. What we did not expect was that there would be so much love from customers that we kept on growing at rapid pace. We never know how time files.. We were chugging through the recession and today we are one of the largest dealers of fine pens in US. We are one of the top dealers of Montblanc Pens , waterman pens, Faber castell pens , Pelikan pens. In between we opened up another store, also expanded our online operations.

The success can attributed only because of the love of the customers. We are blessed with one of the finest customer base. We recently sent out a survey to our customers hoping that there will be some reply and we can work on it to improvise. What we did not expect was an overwhelming response as to what we can do to make things even better. We have noted every one of your comments and we will try to implement them.

We always wanted to write a blog, express ourselves but in between our work and sleep we never had time :-) Hopefully, we will have a continuation this time and hoping that we will be able to communicate even better with our customers.

Thank you all for the wonderful support. Writing makes one remember things. When I used to be in college, the professor used to say that while reading if you want to remember the points to write, first read the book, understand it and then write it. If you are able to write all the points without seeing the book, you have understood it. Otherwise, you need to go back and start reading until you can write without seeing the text in the book.

It is been a wonderful journey so far and we are hoping that we can serve our customers even better.

Thank you,
