Montegrappa extends its Fortuna series by adding a new range of writing instruments called "Caduceus". The series was introduced earlier this year and has made a robust presence in the market since the date of its inception. The name Caduceus is taken from Greek Mythology. It was the name given to the staff carried by Greek God Hermes. The mystic staff is considered as a symbol of health and purity, and still we can see it outside the gate of many health institutions. As other Fortuna writing implements, this fine collection exudes Italian pen making charisma. Caduceus pens are made from same material as other Montegrappa Fortuna writing implements. The barrel section has no decorations; instead, it tapers down towards the rare end and displays a simple yet expressive design. The cap is slightly wider than the barrel and features a large band that reads Montegrappa. The design of the clip resembles with the shape of Caduceus. However, the clip is stiff which might be a downside for many. But, appearance wise the "Caduceus" is a well-groomed collection of writing instruments which will surely capture your attention.

Caduceus writing implements are available in three different writing modes: fountain, rollerball, and ballpoint versions. The fountain and rollerball version feature a screw-on cap with minimum threads. The cap comes off within two or three rounds, making the Caduceus a convenient carry on-the-go companion. On the other hand side, the ballpoint pen features a smooth twist-action mechanism which eases the process of extracting and retracting the tip.

The fountain pen version features a sturdy stainless steel nib with a filigree pattern etched on the front. Recording Family History

Question: What is the difference between a Ballpoint pens/refills and Rollerball pens/refills?

Answer: Ballpoint pen refills use a thick oil based ink where the ball in the pen nib pushes the ink on to the paper. Ballpoint pens have a thick ink that does not evaporate easily. A cap is not necessary. Ballpoint ink is less likely to bleed through the paper.

A Rollerball pen is more related to the fountain pen as it uses a water based ink. The Rollerball pen and refill was first introduced to fit the demands of loyalists of fountain pens that missed the use of a wetter ink. Rollerball ink spreads on paper widely and goes inside the paper a little deeper than oil-based ink of a ballpoint pen.

Since the water based ink of a Rollerball pen has a higher rate of drying out, having a cap is absolutely necessary for this pen to cover the pen nib when not in use.

Most Ballpoint and Rollerball refills are offered in fine and medium size, some brands offer broad.

The Lamy Wild Rubin (ruby) Studio pens have finally arrived!  The pictures I first saw of the Wild Rubin reminded me of the Lamy Royal Red color.  Boy, was I wrong.  The true color of the Wild Rubin does not come through in the pictures.  The Ruby color is shimmery and bright, not a matte color at all.
The Wild Rubin has a stainless steel barrel and polished chrome accents.  It has the iconic propeller clip.  The fountain pen and rollerball are the same style as previous colors, but the ballpoint is now tapered and has a longer front section.  The finish is smooth and lacquered, not the usual satin metal finish.
The fountain pen is available with a stainless steel nib or a 14k nib, both pens come with a converter and ink cartridge to start writing right away.  The 14k fountain pen arrives in a gift box with a bottle of blue ink.
All in all - these are beautiful pens and a great addition to any pen lovers collection.

If you really want to improve your penmanship you need to practice, An occasional note, birthday card , and a grocery list is a chance to practice, as is the ‘honey do’ list. But if you are serious about being able to showcase your exemplary penmanship skills keep a journal, pen a short story or copy cursive writing from a template, anything that will give you more experience forming letters and words.

I must admit my cursive is excellent; it must have been all those black and white composition books where I had to practice over and over again each letter of the alphabet. Like anything worthwhile, it takes time. But don’t despair, it will most likely take less than the twelve years I practiced in school!

It is a personal preference as to what writing tool you use. Rollerball pens are so smooth that they writer smoothly with the least amount of pressure. On the other hand, more pressure is required to write with ballpoint pens. If you write small, and want to explore writing with a fountain pen, you’ll probably want to go with a fine-tipped pen so your writing becomes more legible. If you write in a very simple, minimalistic way without much embellishment, you might want to try writing with a stub-nibbed fountain pen or a chisel-tipped pen just to see how that might change your writing. Whatever you decide “Write-on!”

Retro51 Tornado Love, Peace and Happiness Rollerball Pen

The Tornado line has been and still is Retro51’s bread and butter.  Offered in many different colors and designs, it is a workhorse pen that blends comfort and reliability.  Each Tornado pen arrives with a capless rollerball, extended by twisting the rear knurled grip, which provides a smooth writing experience.  The body of the pen is brass and is generally covered in lacquer or a design, after which a layer of protective clear lacquer is applied.  The body tapers from back to front, with a clip protruding from beneath the branded ring at the back end of the pen.  Retro51 has released a good selection of numbered Limited Edition Tornado pens and their newest is the Love, Peace & Happiness edition in a run of 500 pieces.  This particular edition boasts an antique brushed look to all of the brass pieces, with the body covered in 25 different languages for the words “love,” “peace” and “happiness.”  The words expose the brass body beneath a matte cream lacquer.

This is a striking piece, helped in no small part by the antique brass accents.  The limited edition number is engraved into the ring above the clip and is finished in the same matte cream color as the body – a nice touch as it can sometimes be hard to locate this number depending on its placement.  The cream and brass complement each other very well.  As with most of the Tornado line this piece has a nice weight to it – not too heavy, not too light – and feels very well balanced when in use.  The diamond pattern grip at the rear makes it easy to extend and retract the refill.  An interesting note is that if you have a favorite Parker style refill which you prefer over the capless rollerball that comes with the pen, the Tornado line allows you to switch between the two.  This opens up the types and colors of refills that can be used in conjunction with these pieces.

The peculiarity about Cross Torero is that the outside of the pen is covered in Leather.The grip of the pen is quite comfortable and you have a good feeling while writing it. I think many people would have doubts on the quality of leather and will it get worn out just like other leather products do. Does the warranty cover the leather? Cross did have a similar collection some time back in leather with their Cross AutoCross series.We haven’t heard any complaints about the leather of Autocross . I got curious about the name “Torero”. I googled it and came to know that a Torero is “a matador or one of the supporting team during a bull fight” . Well,why would Cross name its Pen as Torero? I never found the answer. If you have any idea,let us know.

(I know I for one just saw “Chicago” and adored it!) Though they are the little darlings of movie culture, the films themselves must, every now and then, share a little limelight with the men and women who directed them to success. Peter Jackson, James Cameron, Stephen Spielberg, Gore Verbinski, Tim Burton, Clint Eastwood and Christopher Nolan are the geniuses that bring these masterpieces to life. Sometimes, unfortunately, they are overlooked in the public eye in favor of glitz and glamour of their products.

Overlooked, but certainly not forgotten if the Montblanc Company has anything to say about it. For 2012, Montblanc has decided to visually tell the story of Sir Alfred Hitchcock, a mastermind and pioneer of suspense and psychological thriller movies and TV shows. This British-born subject was not native to America, but in his half a century-long career he managed to shake the country to its core.

The MontBlanc Alfred Hitchcock Limited Edition collection  has turned out masterpiece after glorious masterpiece, but the Limited Edition 3000 in honor of Sir Hitchcock may just be the most intriguing one yet. The different elements of the design beautifully allude to famous, iconic scenes from Hitchcock’s most famous movies. Here are the details of the design

• The precious lacquer barrel and cap are artfully engraved with a unique “stairway” texture. This conceptual design is reminiscent of Hitchcock’s movie “Vertigo” (1958), a suspenseful little film about a private investigator who suffers from a crippling fear of heights.
• What is probably Hitchcock’s most recognizable film, “Psycho” (1960), is tastefully alluded to in the pen’s diamond-enriched clip shaped like a knife. (When you think of horror, it’s only natural that Psycho’s 45 second long murder scene jumps to the front of your mind. Is that important or something?” Instead of re-shooting, however, Hitchcock simply decided to add a place card in the opening scene that marked the date as “Friday, December the Eleventh.”)
 
Quality and craftsmanship do not even begin to describe the care, dedication and consideration that Montblanc has put into this tour-de-force of pens. Visconti–Declaration of Independence 1776 Pen
