Montblanc Writers Edition: Victor Hugo

This summer has been full of amazing pen releases, and we are especially happy to have the new Writers Edition series from Montblanc. This Writer's Edition is focused on the famous French writer: Victor Hugo. Hugo is known for being a poet, novelist, and dramatist. He is well known for Les Miserables and The Hunchback of Notre-Dame. Hugo was heavily influenced by romanticism, and was a huge figure in this literary movement. He was greatly inspired by François-René de Chateaubriand, who was also a well known French writer, politician, and diplomat who founded romanticism in French literature. Hugo was also very involved in politics, and supported Republicanism. His political stance eventually caused him to be exiled from 1855 to 1870. When he returned back to Paris in 1870, he was seen as a hero. Unfortunately, the last years of his life continued to go down hill as he lost both his sons in 1871 and 1873. This caused some of his later works to be more heavy and deep, focusing on themes of religion and death. He died in Paris on May 22nd, 1885. Since then he has remained a literary giant.

The Victor Hugo collection features two fountain pens, two rollerballs, a ballpoint, mechanical pencil, ink, a pen pouch, and notebook.

The Limited Edition 1831 is a tribute to his story Notre-Dame de Paris (The Hunchback of Notre-Dame). The design of the pen features a skeleton overlay on the cap and barrel, the cap has an emblem made out of Mother of Pearl, and also has a cone ring with a special engraving and a single chain link. The nib is a medium Au750 solid gold nib, and is rhodium colored. The body is made out of metal, and it's also a piston filler. It measures at 5.7"L x 0.7" W, and is packaged in a gift box. It is also now available in a rollerball!

The standard Victor Hugo Fountain pen is inspired by a few different parts of the French architecture. The cap is influenced by the Gothic architecture of the Notre Dame de Paris. The barrel incorporates the Neo-Gothic furniture in Hugo's Hauteville House. The clip structure is shaped to reflect the Rosace from Notre Dame, and the drop is inspired from the bell. If you look close enough, behind the clip, you'll see the outline of the face of Jean Valjean from Les Miserables. The entire body also portrays the shape of the pillar where Quasimodo is chained to in the square of Notre Dame. The nib comes in a fine or medium, and also features the Au750 gold nib. The body is made from precious resin, and also is a piston filler. This also comes in a ballpoint, rollerball, and mechanical pencil.

Accessories feature a pen pouch and notebook. The pen pouch holds one pen, and is made from soft black leather, featuring an embossed design of the spires from the Notre Dame de Paris cathedral. The notebook, made in Italy, is black and contains 96/192 lined pages, and is also embossed with the Neo-gothic furniture from Hugo's Hauteville House.

Last, but not least, there is also a Homage to Victor Hugo ink in the shade brown. The bottle has a front compartment, easy for emptying residue into. This specific shade of brown is inspired by the the gargoyles of Notre Dame.
