Pen Trivia

Pens have been used as props in motion pictures for years.

Director Stanley Kubrick was indeed ahead of his time, and no film shows that more than 1968’s “2001”. The effects for the time are rather remarkable. The film opens up with a simple pen floating in zero gravity. Today, you would be able to computerize it in. But in 1968 it was an impressive scene.

In the 1998 movie "Enemy of the State" with Will Smith and Gene Hackman there was a scene where Smith's character takes apart his Parker 51 looking for a tracking device.

The character Veronica, played by Winona Ryder, used a Montblanc pen to write in her diary in the teen favorite movie teen “Heathers”.

In “A Beautiful Mind” a young prodigy named John Nash (played by Russell Crowe) begins to develop paranoid schizophrenia and endures delusional episodes. Towards the end of the film he is being interviewed by a member of the Nobel Committee, when his Princeton colleagues present him with their pens. In others words, the pens are symbolic of the respect they have for the mathematical genius.

Question: What pen brand is predominantly featured in the “Breakfast Club”?

Answer: It was a Lamy Safari Ballpoint that Brian was putting up his nose in the movie “The Breakfast Club”.

Christmas Gifts for All

Happy Holidays Everyone!!

The fire crackles warm and bright,
The beautiful tree stands astride,
As I open gifts on this glorious night,
I hear Christmas carols,
And everything is all right.

That time of the year is nigh, when we celebrate not only the miraculous birth of Christ, but also life, love and family. Christmas is just around the corner, and as Christ brought us the gift of life, we are prone to gift others good things, for the sake of giving. And since, giving is better than receiving, we bring you a list of cool items that you will rejoice giving others, this holiday season.

For Him
Getting a gift for men, whether it is your father, brother, friend or a significant someone is very difficult. The search gets even frustrating, with the holiday season breathing warm air on your neck. To rescue you from the heated, messy affair of buying the right gift for a man, we bring you a list of favorable gift options below. Choose wise, choose as you please.

Cufflinks
Cufflinks make for a great gift for any hard working man, who cares about his appearance. And even if the receiver is your brother or a friend, who is yet to tread the white collar world, cufflinks can be a thoughtful and useful gift. Raise the bar and go for something exclusive such as a Visconti Bridges Carbon Graphite Cufflinks and Montblanc Silver Oval Rhodium Plated with Black Obsidian Cuff Links, or you can also get cufflinks that cost less than $100.

Pens
A good fountain pen has always been a trademark of rich legacy and education. Gift a fine pen to a man and he will value it forever. A gorgeous pen from noted brands such as Montblanc, Visconti and Parker is sure to add an added flair to this entire gift affair. If you are aware of something he has been eyeing on for a while than your job is made even easier. If not, try to dig out information of his idol. Pen brands keep releasing pens designed after famous people. With luck, you will find what he would cherish.

Wallet
This is the easiest or the laziest gift to give a guy. I say easiest, because every guy needs it, and laziest because we assume every guy needs it and end up buying the first, cheap wallet in view. But it doesn’t have to be so. Make an effort to know the preference or need of the receiver and shop accordingly. Brands like Bosca, Burberry and Cross might be your saving grace.

Watch
If you have the bucks, then wristwatch is the probably the second most common gift for men. They like it; they use it, and watches make for a smart, stylish and sophisticated gift. Find a stylish one from Montegrappa and Tissot, and surprise the man in question.

For Her
Buying a gift for a girl can prove to be tricky. What you think she wants may not be the thing she really wants, and vice versa. So, the best thing to anyone can do when choosing a gift for a woman, whether mother, sister or the significant other is to really know what she really likes. But in case this is a last minute shopping and you cannot figure out what she likes, then here are some surefire gifts to keep her gleaming with joy.

Cashmere/Pashmina clothing
Ladies love clothes, whether they are shopping for it or receiving it as a gift. Why not make her happy this holiday season with a warm cashmere or pashmina scarf, shawl or gloves. Sweaters aren’t a great idea, here. Show some warm love in the cold winter!

Pens
Pens make for a safe option as gifts for women, but a savvy-safe gift. Depending on who you are giving it to, pick an inexpensive pen or an expensive pen. But we ask you, not to be a penny-pincher. Spend a few extra bucks on a fine pen for the lady and it will be appreciated. If anyone cares, I have dibs on the Caran d Ache Dunas Shiny Red Fountain Pen. Thank you!

Jewelry
What kind of woman doesn’t like jewelry? Occasion or not, a woman loves to be showered with jewelry. Earrings, finger rings, necklaces and what not. Just make it real and she will love it.

Spa Day
A hardworking woman needs a spa day, any day of the year. Whether she is a stay-at-home mom, or a CEO of a multi-national company, she deserves a break for doing everything she does. Buy her a spa day, filled with full-body massage, manicure, pedicure, sauna, Jacuzzi and what not. Trust us she will enjoy every bit of this gift. And on second thought, maybe this gift isn’t so bad for men too. After all, they deserve a relaxed day too.

Merry Christmas!!

Montblanc Meisterstuck Classique Rollerball Pen

Montblanc Meisterstuck Classique Rollerball Pen
Montblanc Meisterstuck Classique Rollerball Pen

When leaving a job 15 years ago, I was fortunate to receive a Montblanc Meisterstuck Classique Rollerball as a parting gift. I graciously thanked everyone for such a thoughtful present. I enjoyed using the pen and felt regal and important when signing checks and writing letters. With such an elegant pen I was prone to send more letters and cards to family & friends. I actually looked forward to Christmas when writing out my holiday cards. I had an excuse to sign my name and address envelopes multiple times with my fine writing instrument!

Fast forward to present day. I still have my Classique. It still writes as well and looks as good as the day I received it. I continue to get a kick out of scripting letters, keeping in the back of my mind that I am carrying on a tradition. A tradition for composing thoughts and sharing them. A tradition that encourages one to be creative.

Montblanc – A tribute to the Mont Blanc Special Editions

One would think that amidst all the, wars, conquests, political intrigue and endless scandals, someone in Europe would have thought to climb to the top of the continent’s highest mountain. (For the fun of it if nothing else, as mountain-climbing is a delightful hobby.) This particular mountain sits directly on the French-Italian border in the Alps and remained completely unconquered for centuries. Vague interest in climbing the mountain began around the middle of the 18th century, but it was not until 1760 when Horace-Bénédict de Saussure, a Swiss mountain-climber, sparked a European-wide obsession by announcing that he would give a monetary reward to the first person to climb the mountain. Immediately, untold attempts were made to reach the top of the mountain’s mysterious peak that had yet to see a trace of human life. On August 8th, 1786 Jacques Balmot, a Savoyan mountain guide, and Michel-Gabriel Paccard, a Savoyan doctor and alpinist, were the first ones to successfully reach the crown of this natural phenomenon. They reached the peak of Mont Blanc; or, as the Italians call it, Monte Bianco.

Mountain-MB white pen

For over a century, the Montblanc Company has made some of the world’s finest pens. Their name has been synonymous with craftsmanship, expertise and innovative design. Montblanc has always taken pride in its namesake by incorporating aspects of the great mountain into nearly all their pen designs. In fact, their very logo – a rounded six-pointed white star – represents Mont Blanc’s six glaciers and snow-capped peak. The number 4810 – the height of the mountain – occurs frequently in their collections, whether it’s a simple engraving onto the pens or the quantity of a collection. This year, Montblanc has decided to pay a more direct tribute by giving Mont Blanc its very own collection. The new “Montblanc Meisterstück: Tribute to the Mont Blanc” collection is a timeless compilation of the finest skill, artistry and care that European craftsmanship can produce. Every aspect of this new collection – from the barrels to the nibs, from the cartridges to the clips, and from the emblem to the engravings – contains components that are carefully selected by master craftsmen.  Each of mont blanc pens is created with a special diligence and dedication that marks each pen as a Meisterstück – a masterpiece.

  Tribute MB white pen

By their very nature pens are common and unassuming, but Mont blanc has turned these simple instruments into works of art that would put the finest jewelry to shame. To begin, the Montblanc emblem at the top of each pen is carved from beautiful, luminescent snow quartz. This is the only Montblanc collection that uses these precious minerals in the emblem. The pure-white, marble design represents the perfect, eternal snow that sits undisturbed at Mont Blanc’s peak. As for the barrel design, Montblanc took inspiration from the exact moment when sunlight reflects off the sleek glacial ice that covers Mont Blanc. To replicate this priceless reflection of nature, the pen barrels have a snow-white lacquering that is shined to a high, crystal-like gloss. Montblanc Meisterstuck Tribute to the Mont blanc fountain pen has a stunning 18k rhodium-plated nib that is just as captivating as it is unique.
White Pen
These exquisite accents alone would make the pen almost prettier than the mountain it represents, but Montblanc has never been satisfied with excellence when they can hear perfection echoing from the mountain peaks. To answer perfection’s call, Montblanc has added a special element to the metal foreparts of their pens. A panoramic view of the Mont Blanc massif – for those of you who are not mountain-savvy, a massif is a group of mountains that form a specific mountain range – is engraved into the foreparts’ platinum-plating. There is an inscription above the image that lists some of the tallest and most famous peaks of the massif and their altitudes. With arrows pointing to the mountain it represents, the labels read: Mont Blanc (4810 m), Dômes de Miage (3670 m), Aig. de la Bérangère (3425 m), Aiguille de Tré la Tête (3930 m), Aig. de la Lex Blanche (3697 m), Aiguille des Glaciers (3817 m), Glacier de Tré la Tête, Dôme du Goûter (4304 m) and Aig. de Bionnassay (4052 m). These informations are laser engraved on both Fountain pen and Rollerball pen quite visibly unlike the ballpoint pen due to the lack of grip section in the ballpoint pen.
  White Pen
Black-BG-MontBlanc-Tribute--(7)
The beautifully simplistic text and artfully engraved mountains shimmer incandescently in the metal’s matt silken sheen. The foreparts are available in two distinct colors. Whether it’s pale white gold, reminiscent of frozen winter skies, or subtle rose gold, a color that evokes the image of a faded sunset, each theme will compliment the other accents of the pen to create an instrument of awe-inspiring beauty.

White Pen
There is no finer or more reliable companion than a pen, and there is no finer pen than those in the Tribute to the Mont Blanc collection. These pens transmit an air of grace, quality and prestige that cannot be duplicated. They are impeccable, everlasting masterpieces that will become the crown jewels of any pen enthusiast’s collection.
In 1786, two gentlemen set forth with a desire to achieve what was previously an unthinkable, inhuman feat. This year, Montblanc set forth with a similar desire, and excluding the mountain in itself, these visionaries have one important thing in common: they have achieved the pinnacle of greatness.

MONTBLANC STARWALKER

Starwalker, he's a friend of mine
You've seen him looking fine
He's a straight talker na!
It's an extraordinary Writer, it's a Starwalker!

Few borrowed lines from Buffy Sainte-Marie’s song Starwalker can give you the best possible introduction for Mont Blanc Starwalker Series of fine writing instruments. The acrylic dome on the top houses the floating emblem of Montblanc and that very unique feature graces Mont blanc Starwalker with the most spectacular, coolest and original look in the history of pen designing. What a concept!

Montblanc Starwalker

For the past century, Montblanc pens has been synonymous to the plush writing culture and has effortlessly maintained their time-honored craftsmanship and high quality depicting themselves as the best pens for writing. The materials, artistry and compliance towards creating a pen that will take you on a ride among the stars was well-achieved with the collection conceived a decade ago in 2003, the collection which still succeeds in dazing all the pen lovers, like you and like me.

Overall Rating:  7.50/10

Where can you buy it: http://www.penboutique.com/search?q=Mont+Blanc+Starwalker

1.      Mont blanc Starwalker Collection

It’s a Pen that does a lot more than just write.

Meet the Starwalkers!

The Star Walker comes in a couple of designs. First one being the customary sleek, shiny, black resin beauty and the second one, on the contrary, is an easy grip black rubber body stylized with metal patterns--a counterattack to all the condemnation for Montblanc’s reluctance to transform with time.

With the much loved Montblanc Starwalker Fountain Pens Montblanc Starwalker Ballpoints, Mont blanc Starwalker fineliners/Rollerballs and Montblanc Starwalker Pencils complete this line of super nice pens.

2. Appearance/ design look and feel

Specific Rating: 7.25/10

Uncover the futuristic horizon and follow this sleek explorer to witness the shiny and star-studded sky of luxury in writing.
Starwalker Appearance and Design

The very first glance is all it takes. You will be captivated by the minimalistic, sleek and dignified design of Starwalker and undoubtedly by the cap or top. What looks like a thin white sheet from the profile view actually showcases itself as a beautiful white floating star Mont blanc emblem from above or below.

There is a characteristic three rings design at the grip section in most of the pens from this collection with the middle ring tactfully threaded for the cap. The base of the clip carries the carving- GERMANY. You can also find an individual serial number engraving alongside the MONTBLANC insignia in the ring.

3. Construction and quality

Specific Rating: 8/10

If you are a Montblanc user already, the rounded bottom and the tapered body structure might not come as new to you. The cigar shaped cap in Fountain Pens bears a clip slightly over sized compared to its body. However, the clip is long and quite effortless to flex.

The grip section in various models have an unsmooth surface but nevertheless it offers a nice grip with comfortable hold and according to the various reviews online; it seems fit for the ones with relatively smaller grips.

A contemporary touch to the immensely robust history of penmanship and above all, the value of German Pen Company, Mont blancStarwalker series is undoubtedly one of the most uncompromised pen that has been created.

4. Performance and Reliability

Specific Rating: 7.75/10

This critical analysis is barely faced by Fineliners, Ballpoints and Mechanical Pencils but the Fountain pen. Principally, what determines the performance and reliability of a pen is the nib itself. The slightly tapered towards the bottom, 14K rhodium plated gold nib in the Starwalker fountain pen is smooth. Possibly, that is what it makes it less bouncy and buttery.

However, on the same grounds with M145 Classique, Miesterstuck, the nib might feel a bit dry and scratchy. You might have to struggle a little to maintain the writing angle but it all depends on the writing style of yours.

The ability of the fountain pen nibs to keep up with the speed and abruptness is first-class. Bleed-through? Now what’s that?

Montblanc Starwalker Nibs and Accessories

5. Accessories plus filling System

Specific Rating: 6/10

Surprise!!! (not sure if pleasant or unpleasant): Montblanc Starwalker is a cartridge only pen. Yes, no converters.

Wouldn’t it have been much superior with converters? Don’t sigh yet. I hear various rumors about the adaption of converters. Run a little internet search.

Keeping track of your cartridges and making sure you don’t run out of ink is yet another task you walk into with the purchase of your Starwalker. Quite a negligible one in front of the magnificence with which it writes.

Ballpoint pens, Fineliners and Mechanical Pencils are much hassle free. Here they are, get it at ease from PenBoutique, the authorized dealers of Mont blanc pens.

6. Cost and Value

Specific Rating: 8.50/10

With the craftsmanship and brand value of Mont blanc, Starwalker stands up to its potential.
Gorgeous design and unique features and the attention to every single detail make this series of fine writing instruments a prominient and shiny star in the pen galaxy.
Is Montblanc Starwalker worth it’s price?
Abso-positiv-affirmatively.

Have no second thoughts if you are at the fence. Just go ahead. With our pen shop you can even enjoy some moderately great discounts.

7. Pros and Cons

Pros

Lightweight and Sense of Balance
Futuristic and ergonomic design.
Unique Montblanc logo in the transparent dome of resin.
Variety in choice of pen nibs and minimalistic design
Slightly tapered nib
Easy to post – Screws in the back

Cons

Cartridge only Fountain pens
Quite a hassle to post, the screw threads can be abrasive to the resin body
Unsmooth grip section in selective series
Relatively oversized clip

8. Final Remarks

Smart and contemporary, this series of fine writing instruments from Montblanc is said to be aimed at the cosmopolites, young, upcoming generation of writers who prefer to make their writing device a style statement. And with the introduction of Starwalker, this is as undemanding as twisting the cap off, fitting it in the back and let the ink bleed.
Fascinating but not too flamboyant, Unique and ultra influential, Montblanc Starwalker rightly knows how to keep the balance while walking among the stars.

MONTBLANC MEISTERSTUCK : THE MASTERPIECE

First of all, the name itself intrigued me- Meisterstuck. This persuasively sounds royal and classy. And when a brand like Montblanc has been affixed to this intriguing name, I couldn’t help myself but start a talk about how awesome and tempting this series of writing instrument is.
So, what makes Meisterstuck so irresistible? I’m sure a lot of alike-minded pen enthusiasts who have had an encounter with Montblanc M145P Meisterstuck Black Classique Platinum Plated Fountain Pen or Montblanc Meisterstuck Legrand Gold Plated Rollerball Pen or any other lucrative device from this category of fine pens can give you a satisfying answer. The reasons are the same as that which makes it one of the bestsellers at our pen shop.

Montblanc Meisterstuck Pens
Montblanc Meisterstuck Pens
Is it the slim shape, the lightweight, the simplicity, the exquisite nib or the dependability? Narrowing down to one aspect is quite tough a job. For the past century, Montblanc has been synonymous to the plush writing culture and has effortlessly maintained their time-honored craftsmanship and quality depicting themselves as the best pens for writing. Compare on the basis of materials, artistry and compliance, Montblanc Meisterstuck will come second to none. It possesses the power of touch; a touch from the experts from Mont blanc that has transferred in the timeless expertise, the soul of the masters.
Meisterstuck meaning Masterpiece in German; the name was conceived in 1924 and has been casting a spell ever since. With each passing year, the technology developed and the designs modified but every single masterpiece still echoes absolute silence and patience in the company of which the experts at Mont blanc carry out hundreds of steps to fabricate the perfect nib for you.

Hand-crafted in European tradition, the two toned 14K gold nib with rhodium or platinum inlay graces the Montblanc fountain pens such as Montblanc Meisterstuck 149, Montblanc Meisterstuck Platinum Line Le Grand Fountain Pen, Montblanc Meisterstuck Solitaire Stainless Steel Fountain Pen, and the list of equally lavish fine writing instruments can go on without any hustle.

Montblanc Meisterstuck Fountain Pens

But I will have to take a break to acknowledge the twist-action fluent Ballpoint Pens - Montblanc Meisterstuck Classique Soltaire Royal Ballpoint Pen(also available in Black and Gold and Black and Platinum) being the most sought after; fluid Rollerball Pens, most of which is convertible to fine liners such as MontBlanc Meisterstück LeGrand Rollerball, Gold or Platinum and the Mechanical pencils that come in various sizes as per your need. Pick from either Gold or Platinum Meisterstuck Classique Mechanical Pencils that are available in 0.5mm and 0.7mm. If you are willing to purchase a bolder one, Montblanc Meisterstuck LeGrand Mechanical Pencil - 0.9 mm can fulfill your requisite.
And oh yes, the modern series includes even a highlighter pen, Montblanc Meisterstuck Legrand Document Marker Gold Trims, makes sure you don’t miss out anything important.

The Impression

Though it appears as a regular fountain pen, the minimalist design hides under it the epitome of luxury.
Montblanc Meisterstuck, The Epitome of Luxury
Montblanc Meisterstuck: The Epitome of Luxury
In the recent times, Mont blanc has emerged as a lifestyle brand and it has developed as a nobility to own a timelessly substantial accessory like Meisterstück. The barrel exudes history and value through the deep black precious resins or the Solitaire- platinum and steel plating. This series of luxury pens embraces a simple platinum-plated or gold clip with a carved individual serial number. The splendor is doubled by the precious metal plated rings on the cap and barrel, and also the trim where a broader middle band catches the eye with an engraving of “Montblanc Meisterstück Pen” the highly valued Mont blanc brand name. The top of the cap is rounded imitating the bottom and stands out because of the distinctive white star emblem surmounted by a dome of transparent resin. This emblem represents the snow capped peak of the Montblanc Mountain.

The Filling Mechanism

Based on the operation technique, the Meisterstück series of Fountain Pens can be categorized on the basis of their filling system. Montblanc Meisterstuck Legrand Fountain pens which are modern and bigger version to the Classique series, are Piston Fill Fountain pens; except for the Meisterstuck Legrand Traveler Fountain Pen with gold trims that constitutes of a gold plated cartridge filling system. The Montblanc Meisterstuck 149

Mont blanc Meisterstuck 149
Mont blanc Meisterstuck 149
While talking about masterpieces, one could hardly overlook Montblanc Meisterstuck 149, an iconic pen that has been topping the charts, literally on search engines and blog reviews of the fine writing instruments in this category. The pen boasts of a hand crafted Au 750/ 18K gold nib with rhodium plated inlay, combination of which is flawless against precious Black resin or the Solitaire Platinum, regulars or special Diplomat Version. The other remarkable aspect is it’s presentation; it comes in a luxurious box including Mont blanc Ink as an additional gift. How thoughtful!
Just a matter of fact, the number 149 is not random as it might sound. The numerical 1 indicates that the pen is a strain of Meisterstuck. 4 stands for telescope piston mechanism and 9 denotes the size of the nib that goes down to the smallest size no.1. You might opt for a less substantial but equally estimable Montblanc Meisterstück 146 that constitutes a medium sized nib which is 18K with platinum inlay and of course, hand crafted

Lastly, to add something more to my own enchanting experience with the fascinating series of Meisterstuck, I went through an adequate amount of Google searches if I could find anything rudimentary that can explain in simple words, how Meisterstuck strikes a chord in us. I wanted some answers to how it embodies our precious moments and puts together quite a few words that make stories to tell and I found this on mymeisterstueck.montblanc.com written by an eternal lover of writing, who calls herself Haidji
My new book: I write by hand, my books, stories, notes, wherever I am, no matter when I just write on…notebooks, napkins, over news papers - with the pen I have at the moment. As I started to write my new book; one day, my boyfriend gave me a present. It was the Meisterstuck, I was so happy like only a writer can be, finding the right pen…to write with. Since then, I still write wherever I am, when inspiration catches me because writing is like breathing. I wrote my new book all with Meisterstuck, did this make my book a masterpiece too? ;)
I am now, writing my next book…and I write all my notes with the Meisterstuck, of course.
